Under IVADO’s leadership, members of the Québec AI research community have chosen to pool their expertise around a shared vision: artificial intelligence that is robust, reasoning and responsible.
Since it began operations in 2016, IVADO has surrounded itself with the most accomplished scientists to further research in AI. In partnership with its community, the Institute has made significant contributions to building capacity within the Québec digital ecosystem. The past six years have resulted in new knowledge, and along with the major advances that have been made, obstacles to widespread adoption of AI have also been identified and studied. These include the limited capacity of current AI systems to adapt to changing environments. In response, the IVADO community intends to build for the future and equip AI with reasoning abilities that more closely resemble those seen in humans, so that it can better meet our needs.
In that context, six more research centres with which IVADO had already been working have decided to forge even closer ties with the Institute and its eight centres to make a collective contribution to realizing that vision. IVADO is therefore pleased to enhance its connections with the Institut Courtois, the Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer (IRIC), the Indigenous Futures Research Centre (IFRC) at Concordia University, Unifying Neuroscience and Artificial Intelligence – Québec (UNIQUE), the Centre for Intelligent Machines McGill (CIM) at McGill University, and Software Engineering for Machine Learning Applications (SEMLA). The CHUM and CHU Sainte-Justine research centres are also very closely involved in the research activities led by the IVADO community.
IVADO already benefits from the combined know-how of eight leading research centres: Mila, the Centre de recherches mathématiques, Tech3Lab at HEC Montréal, the Interuniversity Research Centre on Enterprise Networks, Logistics and Transportation (known by its French acronym CIRRELT), the Research Group in Decision Analysis (GERAD), Institute Intelligence and Data at Université Laval (IID), the Consortium Santé Numérique at Université de Montréal, and the International Observatory on the Societal Impacts of AI and Digital Technology (OBVIA).
This expansion of the AI research community that revolves around IVADO opens up prospects for exciting collaborations. Together, we are committed to endowing today’s AI with greater capacity for adaptation and with a profoundly inclusive fibre, to ensure that solutions emerging in the future are developed by and for everyone.
